Excellent point on Kirk. Kirk was always cognizant of the crew's perception of him and he would never have confessed any kind of weakness or doubt to anyone other than Bones or in extreme cases Spock. As far as the rest of the crew were concerned he was a flawless iron man with ice water in his veins. He would also never get involved in any way in a romance between two of his crew members (for that matter a romance between Spock and his direct subordinate Uhura probably violates about 10 different Star Fleet regulations).

Dave, you nailed it.

I would like to add that #16 in your list also showed us Kirk betraying his crew to any form of authority, which is completely anti Kirk. Not to mention around the same time we get to see Kirk exclaim 'I don't know what I'm doing', which is a passable attitude for Kirk to have in the previous film, but by this time Kirk should be Kirk, not some pretty boy cry baby who likes to kick at highly sophisticated tech in order to fix it.

Speaking of lame rip off/odes that are supposed to please us fans, I don't think there are words to describe how forced and lame the 'Khannnn' scene turned out, but you got pretty close.

I think it is about time Damon Lindelof is banned from writing high profile franchises. After Prometheus and now Into Darkness, he is taking these iconic films and reducing them to tired formulaic Hollywood bullshit.

Kudos to you Dave for perfectly articulating what a mess this film is, plot holes, character motivation flaws, cannon flaws and so forth....

Excellent write-up! Agreed on Cherry 2000, Melanie Griffith in her pre-Working Girl hotness. Part of why I wear glasses is eye-strain watching for Showtime's 'Brief Nudity' in promised in their intro screen for Cherry 2000. Dang I wish they had meant Melanie... Well, the number-title subject set off my OCD and I had to post. I know I'll be obsessing on more movies that qualify as candidates for days now.

Additional entries for your consideration:
The GOOD:
• 1408, the scariest PG-13 movie ever made, let alone a great story/cast/adaptation
• Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1954) is classic, I rewatched this with my 13 year old son and it still holds its own for action, story and manly men in confined spaces. Kirk Douglas paved the way for William Shatner in his polyester sailor suit, punching giant octopus in the face. I was sad to hear that they are working on a remake, which has been passed around from director to director by Disney.

The UGLY:
• 10,000 BC if it's not sci-fi, it's still crap and should go on the worst movies ever list. Let's not try to depict the life of cave people in PG-13 again, ok?
• The Sixth Day - of crap. Someone tried to make a Stephen King movie without Stephen King, and even he can only pull it off randomly.

I'll wait for your next installment to see what others you can find. This is a great list you have here!

Thank you for including Buckeroo Banzai. A completely under appreciated movie, unless you are a geek of course. I may need to add all these to my must see again list. Because, of course, I've seen them all.

Variety says Parker is based on Westlake’s literature, but does not clarify whether it is an adaptation of any specific novel. The titular character has been featured on the big screen before, most famously in the 1967 film Point Blank, and later in the 1999 Mel Gibson vehicle Payback – both of which were based on the same novel by Westlake, “The Hunter”.

Thanks, Nora. Good advice from an actual female is always appreciated. By any chance did you get Kathy's number? It's been a while since I was rejected by an Asian girl.

Great post, Dave. My wife and I just recently had a nearly identical conversation. My point to her is that most women today (below the age of 30) spend a great deal of time trying to look like...sluts. Why? My theory is that the young women of today have virtually no self-respect and therefore make poor decisions about their appearance. The women of TOS, for the most part, had plenty of self-respect, usually showed character and strength, and were hot because of those qualities (and the fact that most of their epidermis was exposed, their clothing formed a second skin, or (hopefully) both). It's funny, I have been watching the Star Trek series episodes in chronological order, beginning with Star Trek Enterprise and I just so happened to watch Requiem for Methuselah today. It's hard to believe that Louise Sorel is now 72 years old.
